Remembering Kobe Bryant

Basketball legend Kobe Bryant died in a helicopter crash near Calabasas, California, on Jan. 26, 2020, at the age of 41. His 13-year-old daughter, Gianna Bryant, and seven other people also died. Kobe left a wife, Vanessa, and three other daughters, Natalia (age 17), Bianka (3) and Capri (7 months).
Kobe Bean Bryant was born in Philadelphia on Aug. 23, 1978, to former NBA player Joe Bryant and Pamela Cox Bryant. The youngest of three children, Kobe had two older sisters, Sharia and Shaya.
Kobe started playing basketball at the age of 2. When he was 6, he moved to Italy with his family. He grew up there in the 1980s, and his grandfather used to send him tapes of NBA games. The young Kobe would study them and dream of being the best basketball player to ever play the game.
Through remarkable talent, hard work and a relentless hunger for winning, Kobe became one of the game's undisputed greats — a five-time NBA champion, two-time Finals MVP, league MVP, 11-time All-NBA First Team, nine-time NBA All-Defensive First Team and 18-time All-Star.
He retired from basketball in 2016 at the age of 37, finishing his 20-year NBA career with 33,643 points (25.0 per game), 7,047 rebounds (5.2), 6,306 assists (4.7) and 1,944 steals (1.4) in 1,346 games. 
But Kobe Bryant was much more than just a basketball icon. He inspired the world, and his legacy of greatness will live forever.
